Transit Trade Suspends Afghan Cargo Movement Amid Border Unrest
Karachi, October 13, 2025:
The Government of Pakistan’s Directorate of Transit Trade (HQ), Karachi, has announced the temporary suspension of Afghan Transit Cargo movement following the recent unrest and border closure at the Pak-Afghan border. The decision was made during an emergency meeting chaired by the Director, Transit Trade, Karachi, and attended by all key stakeholders of the transit trade system.The meeting was held at the Directorate General of Transit Trade, Custom House Karachi, with participation from the Director General Transit Trade, Directors of Transit Trade Quetta and Peshawar, representatives of all major terminal operators (QICT, KICT, SAPT, KGTL), licensed tracking companies, the All Pakistan Bonded Carrier Association, and the Afghan Customs Clearing Agents Association.During the discussion, participants highlighted serious cargo congestion issues at terminals in Karachi and border customs stations, which have reached their maximum handling capacity. Concerns were also raised regarding the security of bonded cargo currently stationed en route to border locations. After thorough deliberation, the Directorate has issued Office Order No. 98/2025, directing the following measures:All Afghan Transit containers currently loaded on vehicles and parked inside terminals are to be dismounted immediately.Gate passes for these containers shall be cancelled by the respective terminal operators.The transportation of Afghan Transit containers shall remain suspended until trade activities at the Pak-Afghan border resume..The decision was taken with consensus of all stakeholders to ensure safety, prevent congestion, and maintain operational control under the current circumstances.
